Testimonials
Dustin’s creativity, ingenuity, and technical expertise are unique and admirable. On several occasions, I have leveraged Dustin’s “can do” attitude to help me bring my thoughts into a tangible solution that can be presented as prototype. Each time, Dustin has exceeded my expectation and has been more than willing to help. I hope to see Dustin in a bigger and more strategic role in the future.

About Me
I wear many hats, each of which, as the nature of our industry dictates, have many variations of their own. I began my career as a Web Designer specializing in Flash. I then stepped back into pure XHTML/CSS, and later stepped further into JavaScript and back-end scripting while also focusing on developing and refining my understanding and appreciation for web standards and accessibility.
In mid 2008 I realized I had ventured so far into the coding world that I might not make it back. I have since been exploring the roots of Graphic Design, soaking up everything I can on the origins of Swiss Style and typography, and focusing on mastering the basics. I also have a number of adventure goals to tackle in the next year, including sailing, flying and a few entrepreneurial ventures.
My Experience
I started my career as an addicted hobbyist. I was living in Denver, Colorado, at the time. My band needed a new website and our web guy was swamped with work, so he handed over his software and I started teaching myself the ways of the interwebs. A month later I was hooked, so I enrolled in a Web Design & Multimedia program and started scrounging for freelance work. A year later I had a regular gig with a record label’s IT crew and a steady stream of side projects, and managed to put myself through the last few years of school while telecommuting from small town Nebraska.
Just as I was about to finish my bachelors program I was recruited by a staffing company in Texas to go to work for USAA in San Antonio. Six months into my contract USAA made a full-timer out of me and I joined a small team of UI Designers responsible for the core applications of usaa.com, like My Accounts, Web Billpay, and Account Summary pages. My primary responsibility was to engineer the UI of mobile.usaa.com.
Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, and I decided it was time to make my exit. Now I’m back in the open market, and am ecstatic to dive back into independent work, taking all that I have learned over the past five years with me.
Final Thoughts
I have bled for broke record labels and I have successfully lead the design of enterprise level web applications for a Fortune 100 company. If you’re looking for a code drone, just keep looking. But if you want an intelligent, forward thinking creative who can see past the kitsch and the fluff and deliver truly effective experiences, I would say you found him.
